Oh how I wish I was a lady of leisure; I would love to spend the day relaxing in the spa, enjoying multiple treatments and dining with friends. However instead of a life of luxury I work hard in my career and blog just as hard, so sometimes it’s good to relax! When I was asked to visit Mercure St Paul’s Spa in Sheffield and enjoy a Rejuvenate Spa Day* with a friend I jumped for joy. I quickly messaged my mum and told her to keep the day free as we were enjoying a day together – mums always deserve some pampering!

We managed to find the hotel easily, despite it being a Sheffield city centre location and parked our car at a NCP car park just 100 metres down the road. The spa team told us that they contribute towards the cost of parking so you only have to pay £3.50 for the day. Upon entering the spa reception we were greeted by big friendly smiles and a genuinely warm welcome, so upon the moment we arrived I knew my mum and I were going to have a wonderful day.

The Spa manager (or at least I think she was) gave us a tour of the facilities, showing us where the treatment rooms, gym, pool and changing rooms all were, before leaving us to enjoy them.

We changed into our swimming costumes and stepped out to the most serene pool. With ambient blue lighting and only a handful of other people we enjoyed an hour of swimming and relaxing before venturing to the many spa experience rooms. Just off the pool area is a little hub with 5 spa experience rooms off it. The centre is filled with loungers to relax on and a water fountain, and there is a Rock Sauna, Steam Room, Aroma Therapy Room, Experience Shower and Ice Igloo to choose from.

Mum and I spent plenty of time popping in and out of each room making the most of our time there. We even tried the Ice Igloo which was obviously freezing yet very refreshing!

Its these Spa Experience Rooms that really set this Spa apart from others I’ve seen. It’s the sheer number of different rooms that is amazing! If you don’t like the dry extreme heat of a Rock Sauna you can enjoy the warm and steamy Aroma Room. The rooms were a little busy but not too much so, we never had to wait to enjoy any of them. After an hour and a half of the pool and steam rooms, saunas and ice room we put our dressing gowns back on and head to the treatment rooms.

We were greeted at the Spa Treatments reception with another very warm and sincere welcome and shown to the relaxation lounge. After a short wait our Spa Therapists guided us to the treatment rooms. One of the best things about the Rejuvenate Spa Day with Mercure is that you don’t have to pick between a number of different treatments you get them all! So my mum and I both enjoyed a Discovery Facial, Tranquillity Scalp Massage and Cleansing and Purifying Back Treatment.

The therapist started with the back treatment and cleansed, exfoliated then massaged with oil for what felt like a million blissful minutes. She asked if I have any areas that needed some extra attention and how hard I like the massage. After the massage she applied a mask to my back and asked me to turn over. As the mask worked miracles on my back she then started the facial and scalp massage.

I’ve never had a facial before but would definitely have another one. It was incredibly relaxing especially with the scalp massage straight after. My face was cleansed multiple times, exfoliated then massaged with oil which was also used on my scalp. The scalp massage was so relaxing I’m sure I started to drift of to sleep!

After the scalp massage a mask was then applied to my face and left to work as the therapist massaged my hands and arms. The face mask and back mask were both cleansed off. After a magical, blissful relaxing 70 minutes the therapist was finished and I was on cloud nine!

I met my mum back in the relaxation lounge where she told me she has never ever had a facial as thorough and relaxing as that. The therapists then joined us and talked us through our skin consultation where we were told which products would best help our skin and why. My mum was told her current regime was too harsh for her skin and was recommended products to help and I was told I needed something to help scrub down into my pores to thoroughly cleanse and help with blemishes. mercure st pauls hotel and spa sheffield review 14

After buying quite a few products we headed back to the changing rooms to take a spa selfie and get dressed for our lunch in the Champagne Bar in the hotel.

We were walked to the Champagne Bar my a lovely member of the spa team and shown to our table where we were presented with a number of sandwiches to choose from. Each sandwich or wrap came with a mini soup of the day and crisps. The menu had a great selection, however you could upgrade your menu for just £2 for a choice of larger sandwiches and burgers if you wished.

We even ordered a side of fries – after all we had swam a few laps in the pool!

After a tasty lunch in gorgeous surroundings we headed back to the spa to pick up our products and say a sad goodbye to the wonderful staff – we definitely didn’t want to leave!

Overall I have to say this spa package is fantastic value! I couldn’t believe that for just £79 you received 3 different spa treatments, use of their extensive spa facilites (which does include a gym, if you fancy a workout), robes and towels and lunch. The spa facilities were peaceful, extensive and spacious, the food was delicious and the hotel was light, bright, modern and relaxed.

However the thing that really makes this spa shine is the staff! My mum and I could not have been made more welcome. Every member of spa team was friendly and respectful, and the fact that we were looked after by the same therapist throughout the day really made the service all that more personal. My mum has been to some spas where the staff weren’t so friendly and look down their nose at customers, so we were a bit anxious about this before arriving, however we needn’t have worried. The spa team at Mercure St Paul’s are the finest we’ve ever experienced and thanks to them alone we would definitely return as we know our treatment would be blissful and relaxing, the welcome would be warm and the service would be the best around.

Have you ever visited Mercure St Paul’s Hotel & Spa? Did you get chance to enjoy the spa? Have you enjoyed a spa day at a different Mercure spa, or at a different spa that you would recommend to others?
