We all need things to motivate and help us in every area of our life. So if you’re looking to get fit and healthy then it’s time to turn your smart phone into a useful tool. I have a wide number of health and fitness apps on my phone that I use daily to keep me on track, monitor my progress, give me inspiration, mark my results and motivate me. So I thought I would share with you (in my opinion) five of the best health and fitness apps.
Nike Plus is probably one of my favourite and most used apps, and it keeps getting better. When I first downloaded Nike Plus I used it to simply monitor my distance when running. Over the years Nike have added many extra features to this fitness app making it even more motivating. There is a challenge option so you can set up challenges between you and your friends, at the moment my mum and I are in a challenge to run 733 miles by the end of the year. Big challenge but at least it’s something to aim for! There is also a new option called Coach which sets you training plans for races such as 5k and 10k. It tells you how far you need to run each day – very handy!
SnapTrack is a god send for those who don’t believe in the bathroom scales. I’ve always been an advocate for marking your progress through measurements and photos rather than the scales. The scales does not give a true indication of your healthy body, nothing shows you progress like photos! So SnapTrack is essentially an app that allows you to take selfies of your body, keep track of your measurements and watch yourself transform. You can create collages for before and afters, add moods and notes to days so you can really understand your progress and journey, and (if you wish) share your photos with your friends on Twitter and Facebook. It really is the best way to keep track of your progress.
I have always been fascinated with the science of sleep and dreams, so when I learnt of Sleep Cycle I knew I would love it. Sleep Cycle analyzes your sleep patterns while you’re in the land of nod and wakes you at a time that is more natural to your body. You choose a half an hour period in which you want to wake and Sleep Cycle will wake you when you are in the lightest sleep phase during that time period. The idea is that you will not wake up groggy anymore! Sleep cycle uses the accelerometer in your iPhone to monitor your movement to determine which sleep phase you are in – it’s really interesting to see the results when you wake. I find this app has really helped improve my sleeping habits and helps ensure that I get that magic 7.5 hours sleep each night – vital for a healthy lifestyle and weight loss!
Tone It Up
Tone It Up is a fab way to keep yourself motivated. Very much like their website the Tone It Up app is filled with workouts, daily tips, recipes, and a community you can chat to. The app allows you to follow the girl’s workout calendar on the go so you don’t have to keep checking the website. Perfect if you are looking to begin their Bikini Series this summer!
The Blogilates App is similar to the Tone It Up app in that it is filled with workouts, tips, recipes and a workout calendar to follow. I love this app because of the calendar – it tells you each day which of the Blogilates workouts to do and has a little tick list for you to tick off once you have completed them – very motivating!
