Green Tea – What’s all the fuss about? – The health benefits.

As January rolls around, so does everyone’s ridiculously strict health and fitness regimes. These strict regimes work for some, but for many they don’t. So why not instead work on one little thing at a time. How about you add things to your diet rather than take them away! Why not add green tea to your diet…. these little teabags are filled with goodness!

Simply swapping your usual brew for a cup of green tea can give you a load of little benefits. Now don’t get me wrong if you don’t workout and fill your body with junk food just drinking green tea won’t do much good and could never counteract the badness you do. However if you eat fairly healthy then adding green tea to your diet is a great supplement to your healthy lifestyle. The little infographic below shows some of the benefits it can have.

the benefits to green tea Now I admit I don’t drink green tea nearly as much as I should as I love a good strong builders brew. My problem with green tea is that some that I have tried do not taste good at all!! Some green teas can be harsh tasting. However thankfully I have found a tea I enjoy the Higher Living Green Tea and Higher Living Green Tea Chai*.This tea is not harsh tasting, is pleasant and mild tasting. I also enjoy the Chai Seed Green Tea because of it’s added goodness! Since receiving these packets of green tea I have upped my consumption and feel smug knowing my brew is healthier for me than before.

My favourite benefits to green tea are that;

  • It helps with weight loss- Green tea increases your metabolism, which means you burn more calories throughout the day without doing any extra activity.
  • Helps reduce the risk of diabetes, heart disease, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s
  • Helps reduce depression – Theanine; an amino acid found in tea provides a relaxing and tranquillizing effect. So your nan was right; a cup of tea helps calms your nerves!
  • Helps improve your skin – Green tea can help with wrinkles and signs of ageing because of its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities.

However as I mentioned previously green tea is not a miracle cure, one cup of green tea a day will not dramatically improve your health. The jury is still out on how much green tea you need to consume a day to give you all the gains, some say as little as two cups a day other say five. However drinking green tea or even taking green tea supplements do do your body good!

    The higher living tea sounds yum! I’m not a big green tea fan at all but I think when I go to Japan I will pick up some cheap matcha (because it’s super expensive over here) and start putting that in green juices and smoothies. And start making green juices/smoothies…
